Working on Summer Readers!

Posted: November 2, 2015 in Uncategorized

Hi everyone,

Since the start of the new Academic Year we have been busy busy in the Readers department. The summer readers in 3 ESO as well as 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate and 1 IB consisted of short African stories which gave us a perfect reason to explore the African Continent a bit better. We started this journey using the KWL chart (what we Know; what we Want to know; what we Learnt) to focus our investigations better and then applied them to the countries from where the stories in our reader were from. In 3 ESO we took this investigation a step further and the students produced some amazing presentations that were not only a joy to watch, but also very instructive as we found out about strange animals, peculiar laws and historical facts.

In 4 ESO we also explored the KWL chart and applied it to another type of summer reader where all the stories were from the five towns that make up what is today known as Stoke-on-Trent in the UK. This gave us a reason to explore this area of England and the students enjoyed learning about famous football stadiums, amazing fairgrounds and other curiosities. We all enjoyed the presentations a lot.
