Creating our robots!

Posted: January 31, 2014 in FUNNY ACTIVITIES

Hi everyone,

This week our 3rd grade students had a workshop about “Robotix”.  At the beginning, the kids had no many ideas about it, but finally they discovered how interesting is to create “special machines” that can walk or have different abilities. If students want to find out more about “Robotix”, there will be an extracurricular activity about it in the school since, February.

Here some pictures of our students discovering about “Robotix”.

This is a source of constant debate in the TEFL world. Here in Spain, many Spaniards (employers and students) request native speaker teachers. They hold beliefs, or prejudices, such as:

British speak proper English not like Americans

My German / Dutch /Spanish teacher of English knows grammar but speaks with a terrible accent

I want to speak proper English like my British / American/ Australian / teacher

This is a complex and controversial topic…

I found this interesting article about non-native speaker teachers. I you want to read more just click on the link below. You can also add your comment.

Peace Day

Posted: January 31, 2014 in INTERESTING WEBSITES

Hi everyone,

As you know, we celebrate  “Peace day” in our school the 30th of January, so our students are doing different activities to commemorate that day and this year we cannot forget a very important person that helped to promote peace in the world, Nelson Mandela. For this reason, this website will help students to know more about him and his actions.

Hi everyone,
In the following website students might practice their typing with different games. Students might learn while they have fun. It is directly related to what we are working with in the second term with 4th and 5th primary.
Hope you give it a good use!

Hi everyone,

Last Friday we went down to see the new greenhouse. We talked about the new extra-curricular activity on Thursdays. The students were also allowed to look for their plants that they planted on tree day. We watered the plants and talked about plant growth.

Germination and Plants!

Posted: January 15, 2014 in SCIENCE
Hi there,
Here are some photos of 3ºEP in the Lab. We are learning about seed germination and plants. They have placed a bean seed in tissue paper and watered it. Next week we will analyse their results.
I also took the students to see the new green house and informed them that the after school activity will start tomorrow, Thursday the 16th. If any students would like to take part they have to sign up in Alexia.

Teaching through videos!

Posted: January 15, 2014 in INTERESTING WEBSITES

Hello there,

All English teachers know that videos are a great way to engage students and introduce them to authentic English. However, it can take a lot of time to find ones that are suitable to use in class. Here are some of the sites I can recommend. Can you add any more to the list?

– From EFL Classroom http://community.eflclassroom.com/video
– From Larry Ferlazzo: The best popular movies/TV shows for ESL/EFL http://goo.gl/UfjjVB
– From Lyrics Training http://www.lyricstraining.com/
– From Edudemic: The 100 best video sites for educators http://goo.gl/p0Rwsp

I hope you find them useful
