Revising for the exam!

Posted: January 29, 2013 in Uncategorized

Hi everyone,

Last week I played a game with 4ºEP in preparation for the exam on digestion and nutrition. I gave all the students a piece of paper with a food written on it. Students had to move around the group asking each other what food they were and group themselves into carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and fats. Then the students had to make themselves into a human food pyramid in the patio. They enjoyed it a lot and it helped students understand what foods go in which group.

Hi everyone there,

It is known that children feel more motivated when the work is related to their interests. I found this perfect website with the cartoons they like ‘Madagascar’. There are quite a few resources, games, activities, printable all for free. The only thing is that they are addressed to children up to fifth grade. If it’s your case, have a look!!

Hi there,

This week, I will show you a very funny video I used in class to introduce the content of adverbs. Students really liked the video and it caught their attention in order to, learn more about adverbs.

Hope you find it useful, enjoy it!

Working in the Lab!

Here are some photos from todays lab session with 3ºEP C. We are studying invertebrates (and vertebrates) in both class and lab. Students really enjoyed investigating the different invertebrates today. Lots of the children were really interested in this topic and brought in beetles, worms, flies and milipededs. 3ºEP have an exam next week and these investigations will be good practice for the exam.

Here´s the blog activity for this week.
It´s an interesting video about advertising techniques. Next week ss from 3º ESO are going to start learning vocabulary related to advertising and consumer society. My aim is to play them videos of a few adverts that are considered successful and they will have to analyse them. One thing they will have to pay attention to is the way these adverts attract customers. In order to make this activity more successful, first I would like to play them the video about advertising techniques that companies use to attract customers. The video contains some definitions of techniques  and also gives examples of adverts that illustrate these techniques.
I find it very useful. I hope you´ll like it too.

If only…

Here´s the blog activity.
This is a British Council video which explains the use of´´wish´, ´If only´ to express regrets. As 3º ESO students were dealing with it last week I noticed difficulties. This video lasts only 2 minutes and in pictures helps ss understand the structure depending on the regret related to the past or present or related to another person.
I hope you´ll like it.

Hello, everyone!!

This is 5th grade. We all hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas. Happy New Year!!!

During this term we are working on a new project: El Motor del Mundo. Our first lessons are about our Environment. We have just started, but we have found some quotations about the topic. We would like you to read and think a little bit about them. They are quite pessimistic, but we are going to change that! Walt Disney Company has something to tell us:

“Landscapes of great wonder and beauty lie under our feet and all around us. They are discovered in tunnels in the ground, the heart of flowers, the hollows of trees, fresh-water ponds, seaweed jungles between tides, and even drops of water. Life in these hidden worlds is more startling in reality than anything we can imagine. How could this earth of ours, which is only a speck in the heavens, have so much variety of life, so many curious and exciting creatures?”
― Walt Disney Company

During the following weeks, we’ll show our work. Don’t forget reading the quotes!!!!

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi)

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.” (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi)

“Oh Beautiful for smoggy skies, insecticided grain,
For strip-mined mountain’s majesty above the asphalt plain.
America, America, man sheds his waste on thee,
And hides the pines with billboard signs, from sea to oily sea.”
George Carlin)

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children” (Chief Seattle)

“I am glad I will not be young in a future without wilderness.” (Aldo Leopold)

Hi everyone!

This week we are looking at a different way to learn new words; Word-picturing! Students choose different words from the unit and repeat them till they have a nice shape. In 6th grade we did it with vocabulary from the countryside. Then they draw a landscape forming the mountains, houses, trees etc. with the German words. Here is an example of some of their pictures .
